Godwin graduated from the University of Cape Town with a Bachelor of Science majoring in Statistics and Economics. He is also a Certified Financial Analyst charter holder.

Godwin commenced his fund management career in 1997 as a Senior Investment Analyst. From 2001 to 2006 he was a senior portfolio manager. From 2007 to 2012 he was head of an investment boutique where he founded and managed pan Africa and African frontiers listed equity funds.

He is a member of the Institute of Directors in Southern Africa, the Investment Analyst Society, CFA Institute and the Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals.

In 2012 Godwin founded Legacy Africa Fund Managers and is its Managing Director. He has over 28 years investment experience, over 23 of which as a portfolio manager.
