Senzo Hlangu

Head of Africa ex SA Listed Equity

Senzo graduated from the University of Cape Town with a Bachelor of Science (Statistics & Economics) degree. 

He began his investments career in 1998 as a quantitative analyst responsible for fund and benchmark performance and risk measurements, benchmark creation and quantitative research.

In 2000, he joined a global investment management firm as an equity analyst responsible for the retail and food producing sectors of the JSE Securities Exchange (“JSE”). In 2002, after two years as an equity analyst, Senzo moved to the London headquarters of the firm where he worked as an investment analyst within the Global Asset Allocation team. While in London, Senzo also filled the vacant role of European Building Products Analyst. Upon his return to South Africa from London, Senzo was made a junior portfolio manager responsible for small retirement fund clients with balanced mandates.

After four years at the global investment management firm he spent a year working at a long-term insurer’s  internal audit department as an Actuarial and Investment Specialist. This is where Senzo gained exposure to operations, risk and assurance. After his tenure at the long-term insurer, he joined a multi-manager as a senior manager research analyst responsible for the analysis of South African Listed Equity Managers.

In 2007, Senzo joined an investment boutique as a portfolio manager reporting to Godwin Sepeng, who was heading the boutique. At OMIGSA, Senzo was responsible for investment research, portfolio management, client communication and product development. He managed the Old Mutual Namibian Growth Fund for about 3 years from 2009 to 2012. He also co-managed the Community Growth Equity Fund from 2007 to 2012. Senzo also co-founded and co-managed the Old Mutual Pan Africa Fund and Old Mutual African Frontiers Fund with Godwin, until he left OMIGSA in August 2012.

In December 2012, Senzo joined Godwin in setting up LEGACY AFRICA Fund Managers (Pty) Ltd (LEGACY AFRICA). At LEGACY AFRICA, he is Executive Director responsible for operations. He is also a portfolio manager.

Senzo has over 24 years of investments management experience, 15 as a portfolio manager.
