Joe Kainja
Head of Multi Strategies
Joe graduated from the University of Malawi with a Bachelor of Science majoring in Mathematical Sciences (Super Cum Laude); and from the University of Sheffield with a Master of Science majoring in Statistics.
He has been in the financial services industry for the past 25 years starting with his days as a Quantitative Analyst. Joe has a long track record of producing excellent portfolio performance in all the companies he has worked for. He has managed with distinction some of the largest pension, insurance and corporate funds in South Africa. In addition, Joe has set up and managed a number of unit trust funds over the years. Joe hand managed different mandates and investment objectives including equities, fixed interest, inflation-linked bonds, money market, income, balanced, inflation-targeting and absolute return funds.
In addition, Joe has established a strong network with market makers and the stockbroking community which assists him in getting bespoke research and more importantly requisite trading lines if and when required.
Prior to joining the financial sector Joe was a lecturer at various tertiary institutions including the Universities of Malawi and Johannesburg. He has maintained his academic aspect as he continues to add to body of knowledge by contribution to international academic and industry journals. His most recent publications were in Applied Finance and Accounting Vol. 4, No. 2, August 2018 and Journal of Financial Risk Management, 2016, 5, 63-80, June 2016. His adaptation of theory into application makes him a unique professional. It is to that end that Joe has a keen ability to create specific investment products to suit clients’ requirements.
Joe is Head of Multi Strategies (listed South Africa fixed income, balanced funds, absolute return funds) since April 2019 and co-founded Legacy Africa Multi Strategies.
